Lim loses in 2 NCAA tennis finals
Hawaii’s Kristin Lim reached both finals, but could not add to her championship collection at last weekend’s NCAA Division III women’s tennis tournament.
Lim, who captured national singles titles her first two years at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, fell in the final Saturday, 6-1, 6-3 to Middlebury’s Loz-Sze Leung. The senior and her freshman partner, Caroline Ward, also lost in the doubles final, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (8-6) to Amherst’s Jordan Brewer and Gabby Devlin.
Lim won four state high school titles at Punahou, capturing a doubles championship as a freshman, then sweeping the next three singles titles. She graduated from CMS this semester with a degree in economics and accounting.
Lim has been All-American and Academic All-American every year of her collegiate career. She went 31-2 in singles this season.
Westmoreland earns all-academic honor
Hawaii’s Matt Westmoreland, a junior on the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi tennis team, collected Southland Conference All-Academic first-team honors. Westmoreland was a crucial part of the Islanders’ run to a sixth straight Southland championship and their NCAA appearance.
The Island Pacific graduate finished the season 14-9 in singles, winning all five conference matches. He earned second-team All-Southland recognition for both singles and doubles, getting the honor at No. 3 singles, and earning the doubles position alongside Ricardo Mayagoitia.
Corpus Christi’s season ended at 17-8, with a loss to 19th-ranked Texas in the NCAA regionals.
