The National Weather Service lifted a flood advisory for Oahu as heavy afternoon showers eased Wednesday evening.
The heavy rain lingered over the Koolau Mountains into the evening after popping up early Wednesday afternoon because of humid and unstable weather conditions and light winds.
Heavy rains fell on the Waianae Mountains as well and spread to central Oahu and to downtown Honolulu.
The rains flooded the H-1 Freeway near the School Street onramp in the ewa direction during the afternoon commute, backing up traffic downtown, before easing.
The chance of rain is expected to slowly diminish through Friday as conditions improve and as trade winds begin to return.
On Tuesday, forecasters issued flash flood warnings for Oahu and flood advisories for most other islands throughout the day, with about 20 inches of rain reported in some areas.
