  • May Iwa Brewer

The victim in a Makaha shooting last week said she was shot in the head with a handgun when she refused a suspect’s demand for money, according to court documents.

May Iwa Brewer was charged with attempted murder, car theft and three firearm violations in the shooting and robbing of Sadie May Franca on May 19.

Franca was treated at the Queen’s Medical Center for a deep laceration on her forehead above her right brow.

After the shooting, Brewer, 32, fled with her boyfriend, who was driving a stolen white Ford truck, according to a police affidavit filed in court Tuesday. She and her boyfriend were arrested Saturday night in Kapolei after police received an anonymous tip.

The affidavit said Franca was sitting in her car with a female friend in the 81-0000 block of Farrington Highway just after 4:30 p.m. May 19.

Brewer got out of the truck, the affidavit said, approached the two women and demanded money from Franca, the affidavit said. Brewer pointed a handgun at her.

According to the affidavit, Franca told Brewer, “What, you going to shoot me?”

Brewer pulled the trigger, then reached into the truck, took $200 from Franca’s purse and fled in the truck, the documents said.
