Fifteen elementary-age students in a Palolo city summer program were taken to the hospital Friday morning and treated for pepper spray, paramedics reported.

Emergency Medical Services said the incident occurred at 9:15 a.m. at the gym at Palolo Valley District Park.

Police officers were making a presentation to summer fun participants when some of the kids began coughing and rubbing their eyes. The gym was immediately evacuated.

Police said one of the children apparently had brought the pepper spray and discharged it.

The children were reported to be stable condition.

No arrests have been made, but police have initiated an investigation.
