Police have opened an attempted-murder case following a shooting late Thursday night at a Wai­pahu Shell service station.

At least three shots were fired, grazing a 48-year-old man and hitting a vehicle and a window of a home.

The incident began at about 9:30 p.m. when an argument erupted between two groups of men, police said.

One car contained two men, ages 48 and 19.

The people in the second car allegedly chased the car with the two men.

The car with the two victims crashed at the Wai­pahu Shell gas station, ending the chase.

During the confrontation, police said a man in the second car fired three shots. One round slightly injured the 48-year-old man. A second round struck a car driven by a 46-year-old man. The third round went through the window of a nearby home of a 51-year-old woman.

No one was injured at the gas station at 94-380 Pupu­pani St., said Kris Tana­hara, spokes­woman for Aloha Petroleum, distributor and retailer of Shell gasoline in Hawaii.

She said one of the poles at the 24-hour Wai­pahu facility was damaged during the incident.

Besides second-degree attempted murder, police have classified the case as unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle and reckless endangering.
