A man in his 60s was taken to the hospital in critical condition after he was struck by a car while crossing Farrington highway early this morning near the Maili 7-Eleven convenience store.

Police said the pedestrian was not in a cross walk when he was hit by a car driven by a Waianae man, which was heading north on Farrington Highway near Maipalaoa Road. The accident occurred at 1:10 a.m. The pedestrian was walking toward the beach when he was hit.

Speed and alcohol are not believed to be factors on the part of the driver, police said. Also, police said it is not known if the victim had been drinking before he was hit.
