Westside diners have reason to cheer with the recent opening of Sushi Yuzu in Kapolei.
The menu is much more extensive and diversified than the original Yuzu Hawaii in the Ala Moana Hotel, with a mix of sushi, yakitori and other grilled specialties, in addition to Isamu and Motoko “Moco” Kubota’s signature lotus root pizza oozing with five cheeses.
There are also two omakase choices, a traditional nigiri-filled Japan version ($39.50), and a Hawaii version ($29.95) featuring shrimp tempura roll (four pieces) topped with spicy yuzu tuna, seafood dynamite roll (two pieces), layered seafood Ko Olina roll (four pieces) and ahi poke accented with crunchy garlic. Absent is the temari sushi that won fans at the original location. In their quest to introduce a more healthful menu, the sushi is accompanied by gluten-free tamari.
“Five-0” happy hour specials at the Yuzu Bar from 4:30 to 6 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. to closing include select pupu such as spicy poke nachos, king salmon roll and organic fried potatoes, and drinks for $5.
Sushi Yuzu is at 92-1047 Olani St., Suite 1-101. Call 678-1155.
