Tours teach about chocolate

» Oahu Cacao Farm & Chocolate Factory Tour (10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sunday, $40): Learn how chocolate is made from start to finish. The tour begins at a Waiahole farm to see how cacao is fermented and dried. After lunch, Madre opens its factory, where visitors will roast and winnow cacao to make their own Mexican chocolate drink, then grind and temper chocolate to make sweet treats.
» Chocolate Tasting Tour of the World (7:30 to 8:15 p.m. July 11, $20): Learn about the origins of chocolate and how it is made while tasting it in 14 forms.
Benefit features gourmet pupu
Culinary students of Kapiolani Community College are preparing a lineup of gourmet pupu in a benefit for eGlobal Family, which assists orphaned and vulnerable children in developing countries. The event runs 4 to 7:30 p.m. July 20 at Green Rows Farm in Waimanalo.
Chef-instructors David Brown and Alan Tsuchiyama will work alongside students to create dishes made with organically grown and locally raised food. The event will include farm tours and sustainable agriculture and aquaponics demonstrations.

Kids can submit healthy recipes
Kids with cooking savvy can show their chops in Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort and Spa’s "For Kids, by Kids Family Cook-Off."
Families are invited to share a healthy breakfast recipe, along with a picture submitted via Facebook (www.facebook.com/Hyatt), for a chance to win a place on Hyatt’s "For Kids, by Kids" menu and other prizes.
Among the criteria are creativity, appearance, flavor and ease of execution.
The "For Kids, by Kids" menu is a Hyatt initiative to provide its youngest guests with healthful food.
Submissions are due July 31. Five finalists will be announced Aug. 2, after which the public can cast votes. The votes, along with other criteria, will determine the winner.
