Cellphone locator app helps nab suspect
A cellphone application led to the capture of an alleged burglar just a few hours after a burglary in Honolulu.
Police said a 29-year-old Honolulu woman’s home was burglarized about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday. Among the items taken was her cellphone.
Using a cellphone app, she was able to locate her stolen phone, police said.
Officers found the suspect, a 25-year-old homeless man, who had the stolen the cellphone and other items belonging to the woman, police said.
He was arrested at noon Tuesday on suspicion of first-degree burglary on North School Street.
Motorcyclist hurt after clipping police car
An SUV driven by an on-duty police officer was struck by a motorcycle Sunday morning in Waialua.
Police said the accident occurred at 7:05 a.m. on Kaukonahua Road when the police officer was making a left turn into Kaamooloa Road.
A 29-year-old Kapolei man driving a 2011 motorcycle hit the front left corner of the police officer’s vehicle and a rock wall. The motorcycle driver was taken to the Queen’s Medical Center in serious condition.
