Stretch of Maui’s Kahekili Highway reopens after brush fire
A brush fire closed Maui’s Kahekili Highway between Makaala Drive and Waiehu Beach Road for nearly three hoursSaturday afternoon.
The fire blackened an area approximately 800 feet long and 30 feet wide on the mauka side of the highway. Firefighters were called to the scene at 2:42 p.m. and had the fire under control by 3:19 p.m.
The fire was extinguished by 6 p.m.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire was undetermined.
