Harding named to Paul Hornung Watch List
University of Hawaii junior Scott Harding is one of 44 players named to the 2013 Paul Hornung Award Watch List for the most versatile player in major college football. The winner will be announced at the official Paul Hornung Award Banquet in January in Louisville, Ky.
Harding is listed on the UH roster as a wide receiver but has also started at punter and holder. He was ranked 13th nationally and finished second in the Mountain West last season with an average of 12.8 yards per punt return. He also ranked second on the team with 20 receptions and 321 receiving yards.
Sataraka helps U.S. team advance
Honolulu’s Mysha Sataraka went 2-for-3 with an RBI double, and the U.S. advanced in the medal round at the International Softball Federation Junior Women’s World Championship with a 7-0 win over Australia on Friday in Brampton, Ontario, Canada.
Sataraka’s double was part of a five-run first inning for the U.S., which will face Japan in a semifinal game today. The 19-and-under world championship concludes Sunday with the bronze- and gold-medal games.
Volcanoes, Phyxius in Gridiron final
The Volcanoes look to defend their Hawaii Gridiron League title when taking on the Phyxius in the HGL championship game Sunday at T.C. Ching Athletic Complex at the University of Hawaii.
The 7 p.m. Gridiron Hawaii Bowl II finale caps a tripleheader that begins at 3 p.m. with the Hawaii Gridiron Women’s League all-star game. In the third-place game at 3 p.m., the Stingrays take on the Paniolos.
Ho advances in ASP Prime Pro
The North Shore’s Mason Ho beat New Zealand’s Billy Stairmand in the ASP Prime Mr Price Pro Ballito at Willard’s Beach, South Africa, on Friday. Ho scored 15.30 points to pass Stairmand (14.83) in the last two minutes of the heat. He will face Brazil’s Filipe Toledo in Round 5 today.
