Museum will train people to become Pacific Hall docents
Bishop Museum is accepting applications for its Pacific Hall docent training program, which starts Tuesday and runs through Aug. 29. Classes are twice a week from 3 to 6 p.m.
Participants will learn about the origins and culture of the peoples of the Pacific, and the migration and settlement of the Pacific islands.
The museum will reopen the renovated Pacific Hall in September with new artifacts and digital displays that showcase connections among Pacific island cultures.
Docents are trained volunteers who provide tours. Museum officials are looking for people with "enthusiasm, patience, flexibility, and the ability to interact well with visitors of all ages," according to a news release. There is a special need for Japanese, Mandarin and Korean speakers.
The $50 training fee covers the cost of materials during the course. For information and to apply, visit po.st/Docent.
