A SIGNATURE CELEBRATION | 1. Restaurateur Peter Kim, right, welcomed Honolulu Star-Advertiser President and Publisher Dennis Francis and his wife Marjorie to the Fourth of July tasting party at his newly opened Signature Prime Steak & Seafood restaurant atop the Ala Moana Hotel. Samples of almost everything on the menu were served at stations positioned throughout the restaurant, and guests enjoyed a spectacular fireworks show later in the evening.

"CHOO CHOO SOUL" STAR SHINES | 5. Disney "Choo Choo Soul" member Genevieve Goings, center, was the guest of honor as Jeremy Gilbert and Wendy Calio-Gilbert celebrated the opening of their Pas De Deux Hawaii theater, song and dance studio July 7 in Waipio. Goings entertained her young fans with a formal show during the Sunday afternoon open house and stayed on for a meet-and-greet after the blessing, lion dance and champagne toast.

JOAN RIVERS RIPS POLITICAL CORRECTNESS | 3. Comedienne Joan Rivers talked backstage with Tom Moffatt after her high-impact, delightfully non-PC show July 3 in the Blaisdell Concert Hall. Moffatt commemorated the event by giving Rivers two mail-in ticket order forms he'd saved from when he presented her here in 1982. Read my review of Rivers' show at www.honolulu-pulse.com.

A PAULO FAMILY SATURDAY NIGHT | 4. Musician/concert promoter Michael Paulo, standing left, had "family in the house" when he presented a night of smooth jazz July 6 at the Hawai'i Convention Center. Family patriarch Rene Paulo Sr., seated, was there strictly for the music. Michael's siblings -- Cathy Paulo Hirai, Gail Paulo and Rene Paulo Jr. -- helped out with production duties.

2. Signature general manager Jacque Viloria, left, greeted celebrity photographers Kim Taylor Reece and Linda Ching. The best change to the restaurant's layout is removing the stage that previously blocked the view at the entrance. The former stage area now has two prime tables. Reece was seated at one of those tables and Ching at the other.
