  • Potential Salmonella contamination in bags of Hilo Products Roasted & Salted Natural Pistachios has prompted company officials to issue a recall.

Potential Salmonella contamination has prompted company officials to recall batches of Hilo Products pistachios.

Los Angeles-based Tom and Glasser, Inc. distributed the bags of nuts to Hawaii, California and Arizona. The suspect Hilo Products Roasted & Salted Natural Pistachios are part of lot code 0923, which can be found on the back corner next to the seal.

Salmonella bacteria can cause severe, sometimes fatal infections, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Consumers who have purchased the recalled nuts are advised not to eat them and to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. An information line is available at (800) 282-6887 between 4 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to answer consumer questions.
