Hawaii will renew acquaintances with Boise State in its opening game of the fifth annual Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic.

The Rainbow Warriors and Broncos, who were Western Athletic Conference foes from 2002 through 2011, meet in the 8 p.m. game on Dec. 22.

The eight-team tournament, which is owned and operated by ESPN Regional Television, runs Dec. 22, 23 and 25 at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Other first round pairings match: Iowa State vs. George Mason at 12:30 p.m., Oregon State vs. Akron at 2:30 p.m., and South Carolina vs. Saint Mary’s at 6 p.m.

All first-round games will be shown on ESPNU, with subsequent games on ESPNU, ESPN2 and ESPN3.

Six of the teams played in the 2012-13 postseason. Boise State, Iowa State, Akron and Saint Mary’s played in the NCAA Tournament, while George Mason appeared in the College Basketball Invitational and UH was in the Collegeinsider.com Tournament.

Boise State was 21-11 last season and finished fourth in the Mountain West Conference. The Broncos return all five starters from the school’s first team to be an NCAA Tournament at-large selection.

UH is 10-11 against Boise State.
