Man lying in street is run over, dies
Police are trying to determine whether a 33-year-old man was drunk when he was run over early Wednesday morning in Pearl City while lying in the street.
The Medical Examiner’s Office identified the pedestrian as Andrew Mercado of Pearl City. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition at 12:47 a.m. by paramedics, then died at the hospital.
Police said Mercado was run over while lying on Auhuhu Street near Aumakua Street. The driver of the vehicle, who also lives in Pearl City, was uninjured.
Boy arrested after setting mattress alight
Police arrested a 13-year-old boy Monday on suspicion of arson after patrol officers saw him set a mattress on fire in a pedestrian underpass in the Keeaumoku Street area.
The small fire scorched the wall of the underpass.
