Roadwork relocates King Street bus stops
Commuters who catch TheBus at stops on King Street between River and Richards streets will instead have to catch the bus on Hotel Street starting Monday, when the city starts a new road resurfacing and bus-pad project.
The construction is expected to last about 50 days, according to a city release. The stops moved from South King Street to Hotel are at River Street (Stop #592), Maunakea Street (#997), Bethel Street (#393), Alakea Street (#1405) and Richards Street (#4400).
For any problems or concerns during construction, riders are encouraged to call the 24-hour project hotline at 945-1011.
Man sentenced to probation for check fraud
A former Kauai accountant was sentenced to five years’ probation and jail time served for writing unauthorized checks.
Chief Judge Randal Valenciano also ordered Christopher H. Fought, 55, of Portland, Ore., to pay $21,140 in restitution and undergo a substance abuse assessment, the Garden Island newspaper reported.
"I intend to take responsibility and do what I can to make things right," Fought said in court Thursday.
Between December 2007 and July 2008, Fought was an accountant working for a construction company when he allegedly wrote more than 44 unauthorized checks totaling more than $30,000 against a client account, according to Deputy Prosecutor Rebecca Vogt.
He was arrested on Aug. 25, 2011.
Fought, who has already paid back some of the money, pleaded no contest to one count of first-degree theft and 22 counts of second-degree forgery on Jan. 31.
He had already served 60 days in jail, including time awaiting extradition from the mainland.
Fought has two convictions for driving while intoxicated, in 2004 and 2009.
