Biden to visit isles after trip to Asia
Vice President Joe Biden will reportedly stop in Hawaii this weekend after a six-day trade and diplomatic trip to India and Singapore.
Biden arrived in India on Monday afternoon on a four-day visit designed to strengthen ties and lay the groundwork for a summit between Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and President Barack Obama this fall in Washington.
Biden, making his first visit to India as vice president and the first by any sitting U.S. vice president in decades, began his trip by visiting a memorial to Mohandas Gandhi, the leader whose nonviolent movement freed India from British rule.
After meeting senior Indian officials in the capital, New Delhi, the vice president will travel to Mumbai, the nation’s financial hub, to deliver a speech urging both sides to boost economic ties well beyond the current $100 billion in annual U.S.-Indian trade.
The Bidens will stop in Hawaii on Sunday on their way back to Washington on Sunday, according to USA Today.
