2 local PacWest athletes honored
Petr Michnev of Hawaii Pacific’s men’s tennis team and I-Hsuan Hwang of Brigham Young-Hawaii’s women’s tennis squad were honored Sunday as two of the PacWest Conference’s top scholar-athletes for the 2012-13 season.
Michnev, a 6-foot-1 junior from the Czech Republic, posted a 3.66 GPA while earning ITA All-America status in singles. Hwang, a 5-8 senior from Taiwan, had a 3.8 GPA while leading the Seasiders to their seventh straight PacWest title.
Langit wins Mr. USA competition
Honolulu native Richie Langit took first place in his division of the 2013 Las Vegas Mr. USA bodybuilding competition held Friday and Saturday in the desert.
Langit beat all comers in the bantamweight category, including runner-up Eric Yamashita, also of Honolulu.
Next UH hoops clinic this week
The second Rainbow Warrior Basketball Camp of the summer for boys and girls ages 6 through 17 begins Thursday and runs through Saturday.
The three-day skills camp, led by UH coach Gib Arnold, runs from 9 a.m. to noon each day. Camp counselors include current and former UH players. Registration is $75.
