Visitor dies in hospital after pool accident
The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office determined Tuesday that a Japanese visitor died as a result of accidental drowning at a Hilton Hawaiian Village swimming pool.
Kazutaka Uemiya, 57, of Kobe, Japan, was taken in critical condition to a hospital at about 10:30 a.m. Monday. Police said he died at 9:35 p.m.
Man killed in July moped crash identified
The Medical Examiner’s Office has identified a 54-year-old man who died last month after driving his moped into a telephone pole in Manoa as James Young.
Police said Young, who had lived in Manoa, was headed downhill on Woodlawn Drive near Alani Drive at 7:06 a.m. July 14 when he lost control of the white 2005 moped.
He suffered "massive head injuries" and was taken in extremely critical condition to the Queen’s Medical Center, where he later died.
The medical examiner classified Young’s death as accidental and said he died of multiple blunt force injuries caused by the accident.
Police said the victim was not wearing a helmet and that no other vehicles appear to have been involved in the crash.
Homeless man charged with burglary
A Moiliili man surprised a homeless man in his apartment early Sunday morning and held the 54-year-old suspect until police arrived.
Bruce Pinkerton, who gave police no local address, was charged with first-degree burglary Monday. His bail was set at $20,000.
The suspect was caught st 3:10 a.m. in the apartment with property belonging to the homeowners.
