A 37-year-old Waianae man faces several criminal charges after he allegedly threatened to cut his wife’s throat during an argument and ended up trying to strangle her, police said.

The argument occurred July 27 at the couple’s Farrington Highway home near Pokai Bay. The incident escalated when the suspect allegedly grabbed a knife and made slashing motions in front of his wife’s face, threatening to cut her throat. The suspect then threw the knife to the floor, police said, and grabbed the 46-year-old woman’s throat with both hands and started to choke her.

He was arrested Wednesday on two counts of abuse of a household member and first-degree terroristic threatening.
