3 suspects sought after shooting in Kalihi
Honolulu police were searching Saturday for three suspects in an early-morning fight in Kalihi that left an 18-year-old man in serious condition with multiple gunshot wounds.
According to an Emergency Medical Services Division report, paramedics took the man to the hospital after the shooting at about 4:55 a.m. near the Kapalama Post Office at 1217 N. King St.
The victim told police he was befriended by three men who appeared to be in their 20s, and that he and one of the men got into a physical altercation.
As the two men were fighting, one of the suspect’s friends pulled out a handgun and shot the victim, police said.
All three suspects fled in a dark green Honda, police said.
Man found in Nuuanu Stream is identified
The medical examiner’s office has identified the 60-year-old Mililani man whose body was recovered from Nuuanu Stream earlier this month as Joseph Patrick Silva.
Honolulu firefighters recovered the body from the stream at 8:10 a.m. Aug. 8 near Nimitz Highway and River Street.
The medical examiner’s office said Silva drowned.
Firefighters battle blazes in Waianae, Laie
Firefighters battled a 100-acre brush fire Saturday evening near Keaau Beach Park in Waianae.
Ten engine companies, one ladder company, five tankers, two battalion chiefs, one assistant battalion chief and a helicopter crew responded to the 4:55 p.m. call.
No injuries were reported but an abandoned structure was destroyed, according to Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Capt. Robert Main.
The fire was considered 75 percent contained as of 8 p.m. Saturday.
Earlier, firefighters contained a small brush fire in Laie.
The fire started around 7:50 a.m. at the end of Poohaili Street, about a mile uphill and southeast of remnants from a Friday afternoon brush fire.
Four engine companies, a helicopter and a battalion chief responded. Officials said the blaze at one point covered about 1.5 acres. It was contained around 12:20 p.m. but not extinguished as fire crews were pulled off to go to Waianae.
Motorcyclist injured in highway crash
A 22-year-old man was seriously injured Friday after the motorcycle he was operating apparently crashed into a median on Farrington Highway near the Ko Olina exit.
The crash occurred about 5:20 p.m.
The man was transported to a local trauma center in serious condition.
