Woman, 53, hurt in fall in Kokee
A Kalaheo woman was injured Saturday when she fell while walking near Kawaikoi Stream in Kokee State Park, Kauai fire officials said.
The woman, 53, injured her neck at about 12:40 p.m., officials said.
She was airlifted to a landing area at Waimea Canyon Park, then taken to Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waimea.
State completes road resurfacing
The $6.2 million Kapule Highway resurfacing project was dedicated Thursday on Kauai.
About 1.3 miles of highway was resurfaced from Ahukini Road to the intersection of Kuhio Highway with a more durable type of concrete called ultrathin white topping, the state Department of Transportation said. Federal funds paid for 80 percent of the project, state funds 20 percent; and $14,000 was contributed by a local utility company.
Construction included bike lanes in both directions and utility installations. With proper maintenance, the new surface could last 30 years, said Glenn Okimoto, director of the state Department of Transportation.
Community backs dog park
A vacant 1.5-acre parcel in Wailua Homesteads Park will become a dog park under plans by the Wailua-Kapaa Neighborhood Association.
The project is backed by Kauai County, the Garden Island reports.
Neighborhood organizers says the project has been in the planning stages for nearly three years.
The dog park will be adjacent to the pavilion, playground and tennis courts.
