Brothers Sean and Kyle Luster spent much of their summer traveling across the mainland sharing the spirit of aloha with a dose of rock ‘n’ roll. The duo, known as the Red Light Challenge Band, performed 41 shows in 16 states from Colorado to Massachusetts, distributing "Live Aloha" buttons and artificial lei along the way.

"It’s fun. Some people had never been given a lei," said Sean, 21.

Most of the concerts were held at shopping malls from June 15 to July 24 and featured reworked cover songs and tunes from their 2010 debut album, "Marina Girl."

"We did a big fundraiser in Topeka, Kan., for a school supply drive," Sean said. "We were asked to play an impromptu outdoor event at the Buckeye Lake Festival in Ohio."

Sean, who plays guitar, graduated as valedictorian of his class at Pearl City High School and now attends Colorado State University. Kyle, 16, an honor student at Pearl City, plays the drums. Both brothers sing and play other instruments as well.

The Red Light Challenge Band, formerly known as Just Us 2, sold singles while on the road and the duo said they are working on a second album.

In Hawaii, the pair won an award for best song composition at the 2010 "Brown Bags to Stardom." The Lusters play rock tunes from different eras.

"We try to incorporate all of the different genres of rock," Sean said.

They plan to continue touring, collaborating on songwriting and recording their own music. "We’re hoping to get to the next level," Sean said.
