Without an upgrade, less than 10 percent of the state’s television households are expected to be able to view the University of Hawaii’s football game at Oregon State in Corvallis, Ore., on Saturday.
Since it is an Oregon State home game, the broadcast rights are controlled by the Pac-12 Conference, and the game will be shown exclusively on the conference-owned Pac-12 Network, officials said.
Kickoff is 2 p.m. Hawaii time for UH’s first appearance on the year-old Pac-12 Network.
A network spokesman in San Francisco said the game would be available in Hawaii on Dish 413, Hawaiian Telcom 31/1031 and Oceanic Time Warner 232/1232. In addition, Hawaiian Telcom said it will also be shown on 35/1035. The conference and DirecTV do not have an agreement.
According to a recent Nielsen report, there were 437,790 TV households in the state. Oceanic, the state’s largest cable provider, has approximately 378,800 subscribers. According to Oceanic, a "little over 22,000" subscribe to its "Sports Pass" package that includes the Pac-12 Network.
Hawaiian Telcom reported 13,600 TV subscribers in its most recent quarterly report. A Hawaiian Telcom spokesman said "most" have the "Advantage Plus" packages necessary to receive the Pac-12 Network.
Both Hawaiian Telcom and Oceanic are selling upgrades that include the Pac-12 Network.
Oceanic said it is offering an $8.99 one-month "Sports Pass" subscription that includes the Pac-12, NFL Network and NFL Redzone. Hawaiian Telcom value offers and areas of availability are listed at www.hawaiiantel.com/httv.
Roxy Bernstein and Anthony Herron are scheduled to call the game, the network said.
The remainder of UH’s games will be shown on either pay-per-view or the CBS Sports Network.
