Seasiders earn sweep of Flyers

Shih Ting Chen pounded 17 kills, leading the fifth-ranked Brigham Young-Hawaii women’s volleyball team to a sweep of Lewis on Thursday night at the Cannon Activities Center.

After a tight first set, the Seasiders (3-0) opened up comfortable leads in the last two games to notch the 27-25, 25-12, 25-20 victory.

Chen added 16 digs, and Ying Chun Chen had 30 assists and 14 digs. Kim Vertin led the Flyers (0-1) with nine kills.

Vulcans fall to CS San Bernardino 2-0

The Hawaii Hilo men’s soccer team dropped its season opener Friday, falling 2-0 to Cal State San Bernardino at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex.

The Vulcans couldn’t convert on three shots on goal. Raul Gomez and Larry Llamas scored goals for the Coyotes (1-0-1).
