A 37-year-old man who was found unconscious in waters at Kalama Beach Park in Kailua late last month died Sunday of related injuries, Honolulu police said.

The man was taken to the hospital on Aug. 31 where doctors discovered that he had suffered a cervical spine fracture, police said. He remained in intensive care until Sunday around 4 p.m. when he died.

Police said the man was surfing at the beach when witnesses watched him fall off his board. He was located shortly afterward and pulled out of the water unconscious and unresponsive.
