Small brush fire shuts down Kalanianaole
A brush fire scorched about an acre of land between the Sandy Beach parking lot and the Halona Blowhole, causing a lot of smoke and tall flames and briefly closing Kalanianaole Highway.
Capt. Terry Seelig said there were no injuries or property damage.
The Fire Department had to work along the highway, which meant a fire engine, a ladder and a tanker were on the highway, Seelig said.
About 12 firefighters battled the 2:53 p.m. alarm blaze, arriving at 3 p.m. and bringing it under control at 3:40 p.m.
Police shut down Kalanianaole Highway from 4:06 to 4:28 p.m.
There were reports of young boys running from the area just after the fire started, Seelig said.
Police were questioning them, but it was unknown whether they were involved, he said.
Police are investigating the incident as a possible case of second-degree arson.
