Police investigated the scene of a fatal crash along Kapolei Parkway Sunday night.

The 23-year-old Ewa Beach man who was critically injured Sunday night after crashing his car into several trees and light poles along Kapolei Parkway has died, Honolulu police said.

Paramedics responded to the scene of a motor vehicle crash around 11:10 p.m. and transported the man to an area hospital in extremely critical condition, according to an Emergency Medical Services report.

Police said speed and alcohol appear to be factors in the crash that occurred near Kaileolea Drive. The man lost control of his vehicle while heading southbound on Kapolei Parkway and collided into several light poles and trees on the east side of the curb of the roadway, police said.

Kapolei Parkway between Papipi Road and Kaileolea Street was closed to traffic for a few hours while police investigated.
