The Honolulu Fire Department's Air 1 helicopter responded to the discovery of a body this afternoon off the Makapuu Lighthouse trail.

Police and fire crews responded to three separate incidents Sunday in which bodies were discovered on Oahu.

Around 12:30 p.m., a party of four hikers descending from the Makapuu Lighthouse trail toward a set on tidepools on the shoreline discovered a body near a cave along the cliff.

Police and fire crews worked together to retrieve the body and airlift it to a landing zone at Sandy Beach Park.

Police officials could not confirm the sex or approximate age of the body and the cause of death has yet to be determined. Police also said that it was not clear how long the body had been there.

About an hour after the body at Makapuu was discovered, Honolulu Fire Department personnel and Ocean Safety personnel were called to an area near the Pearl City peninsula, where a body was seen floating in the water.

Firefighters retrieved the body of a 60-year-old man who witnesses said had been seen fishing in the area earlier in the day, according to HFD spokesman Capt. Tyler Chan.

Around 4:30 p.m., police were called to an area near Waiawa Correctional Facility, where a body was discovered off to the side of Mililani Cemetery Road.
