Former Sea Warrior to make pro debut
Ex-Hawaii Pacific combo guard Heidi Anton will make her professional basketball debut with Danish powerhouse SISU Copenhagen on Sept. 28 in the Dameligaen opener against Horsholm.
The 5-foot-10 Anton recently signed a one-year contract with SISU, which has won the Danish Premier Championship a league-record 18 times in its history, including back-to-back titles in 2011 and 2012.
Anton averaged 8.8 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.8 assists in 20 starts last season for the Sea Warriors (19-7), who lost in the final of the PacWest tournament.

Seasiders open title defense
No. 4 Brigham Young-Hawaii opens defense of its PacWest title Friday when it hosts Chaminade in a 7:30 p.m. match at Cannon Activities Center.
The Seasiders are 5-0 under first-year head coach Mona Afalava Ah-Hoy. Ah-Hoy replaced Hall of Fame coach Wilfred Navalta, who retired after 27 seasons. Navalta led BYUH (25-4, 16-0) to the NCAA Division II national semifinals en route to being named the AVCA D-II National Coach of the Year in 2012.
On Monday, the Seasiders moved up one spot to No. 4 in the AVCA D-II Coaches Top 25, receiving two first-place votes. Minnesota-Duluth received 33 votes in becoming the new No. 1, followed by Concordia-St. Paul and Tampa.
Sea Warriors’ Buyan is defender of week
Hawaii Pacific senior defensive specialist Chelsey Buyan earned PacWest defender of the week honors in volleyball after leading the conference in dig average. The Waiakea graduate had 88 digs in 13 sets for 6.77 digs per set.
HPU’s Recca earns freshman honors
Hawaii Pacific outside hitter Pomai Recca was named the PacWest freshman of the week as the Sea Warriors went 2-2 at the Seawolf Spike hosted by Sonoma State.
The Kamehameha graduate had 55 kills, 52 digs, two aces and 31⁄2 blocks in 13 sets in being named to the all-tournament team. Recca had 13 kills and 13 digs in a sweep of Chico State to close out the two-day tournament in Rohnert Park, Calif.
Kwan, Wasko, Ulmer make all-tourney team
Dominican’s Sari Kwan (Punahou) and Amanda Wasko (Kamehameha), and Academy of Art’s Brittany Ulmer (La Pietra) all were named to the Otter Classic all-tournament team at the event hosted by Cal State Monterey Bay.
Kwan, a sophomore libero, had 97 digs, nine aces and eight assists as the Penguins went 1-3. Wasko, a sophomore outside hitter, had 43 kills, 51 digs, 11 blocks, three aces, and two assists for Dominican, which finished fourth.
Ulmer, a junior outside hitter, had 27 kills and hit .311 as the Urban Knights finished second in the tournament. She had seven kills, and junior libero Kanoe Irvine (Kamehameha) had 16 digs against San Francisco State in the championship match.

Vulcans’ Hufford picked for frosh honor
Hawaii Hilo goalie Jenna Hufford was named the freshman of the week after helping the Vulcans go 1-0-1.
She allowed one goal in 200 minutes, with the lone score coming in a 4-1 nonconference win over Chaminade. The Vulcans also had a 0-0 double-overtime draw with Brigham Young-Hawaii in a nonconference match.
CROSS COUNTRY
Top male award goes to HPU runner
Hawaii Pacific junior Fermin Murillo-Villagran was named the runner of the week after placing first among the men’s non-Division I finishers in Saturday’s Big Wave Invitational.
Murillo-Villagran finished the 5-kilometer race on the Kaneohe Klipper Golf Course in 16 minutes, 5.76 seconds. The Sea Warriors took second in the team standings in the meet hosted by the University of Hawaii.
Honor roll
Kevin Miller,BYUH: The junior led the Seasiders to the team title of the Big Wave Invitational, placing second overall in 16:14.79.
Leandro Santillan,HPU: The junior finished third in the Big Wave Invitational in 16:22.91.
Gonzales chosen as top freshman female
Malia Gonzales of Hawaii Pacific was named the freshman of the week in women’s cross country following her third-place finish in the Division II/III portion of Saturday’s Big Wave Invitational.
Gonzales finished the 5K race held on the Kaneohe Klipper Golf Course in 19 minutes, 54.61 seconds, the second Sea Warrior to cross the finish line. HPU won the team title.
