University of Hawaii linebacker Brenden Daley and safeties Trayvon Henderson and Kawika Borden passed concussion tests and are expected to be available for Saturday’s road football game against Nevada.
They suffered concussions during the Rainbow Warriors’ loss to Oregon State on Sept. 7.
Each passed baseline tests this past weekend. During the summer, each took a written exam, with the results known as the baseline score. Following a concussion, a player is retested, with the current score compared against the baseline result. A similar or better score on the retest clears the way for a player to participate in noncontact drills.
Daley, Henderson and Borden were among the 64 players on the upcoming travel roster who participated in sprints following Monday’s noncontact practice.
"I passed with flying colors," said Daley, the starting middle linebacker. "The baseline was high, and I still passed it."
Daley suffered the concussion when he hit an Oregon State player during a special-teams coverage.
"It was all sweet dreams from there until Dr. (Elizabeth) Ignacio woke me up," Daley said. "Nobody was home for a little bit. It took Dr. Ignacio telling me: ‘Brenden, you’ve just been knocked out.’ I’m good to go now."
Coach Norm Chow said free safety Marrell Jackson, running back Joey Iosefa, defensive tackle Kennedy Tulimasealii and tight end Jordan Pu‘u-Robinson also will be on the 64-player travel roster. The Warriors depart on Thursday afternoon.
"It looks pretty good," Chow said. "I’m excited about all these guys back."
Iosefa and Tulimasealii made the Oregon State trip, but did not play. Iosefa was the first-team running back on Monday. Tulimasealii was in the rotation on the defensive line.
"I’m 100 percent," said Tulimasealii, who recovered from a sprained MCL.
Jackson did not play against Oregon State because of a sore right knee.
"It was frustrating not to play," Jackson said.
Jackson was running at full speed on Monday.
Pu‘u-Robinson showed no problems with a shoulder injury that he suffered in training camp. Pu‘u-Robinson has played in two out of a possible 14 games since transferring from Washington State last year.
"It’s been tough," he said. "A couple of injuries kept me out. I’m ready now."
