The state of Hawaii ranks 11th in NFL players produced per capita for the 2013 season, according to a study released today.

USA Football, which conducted the study, said Hawaii had nine players on opening weekend rosters or one NFL player per every 151,145 residents, based upon 2010 census data.

"We take our hat off to Hawaii," said Steve Alic of USA Football.

Louisiana, with 62 players, or one per 73,119 people, topped the list of 48 states, the District of Columbia, seven countries and one territory. South Carolina, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida rounded out the top five.

The national average was one player per 269,177 U. S. residents.

California, with 225 players on NFL rosters, produced the most players followed by Florida (186) and Texas (184).

Among high schools, Miami (Fla.) Norland High and Saint Thomas Aquinas of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. each produced six players. Baldwin, Hawaii Prep and Saint Louis School topped Hawaii schools, each contributing two players on 2013 NFL rosters.
