Police investigating stabbing of taxi cab driver in Waikiki

Honolulu police detectives are investigating the stabbing of a taxi cab driver in Waikiki.

The incident took place at about 2:50 p.m near the Ala Wai Boulevard and Kalaimoku Street. Police shut down two makai lanes of traffic along Ala Wai Boulevard for several hours. The lanes reopened this evening.

The driver, 41, who worked for Charley’s Taxi, was stabbed in the arm by a man, who fled the scene on a moped.

Rushed to a trauma hospital in serious condition by the city’s Emergency Medical Services, the taxi driver’s condition was later upgraded to stable, according to police.

A Charley’s Taxi driver who witnessed the attack said a man stabbed the taxi driver while he was standing on the side of the boulevard.
