Head coach Norm Chow and former long-snapper Jake Ingram will be in charge of Hawaii’s special teams for Saturday’s game at Nevada.
Chris Demarest, who usually coordinates the special teams, is suspended for the Rainbow Warriors’ Mountain West Conference opener. The conference ruled Demarest violated the league’s sportsmanship rule during the Sept. 7 game against Oregon State.
Demarest will lead the special teams during today’s walk-through session at Mackay Stadium. He will remain at the hotel during the game.
Demarest has crafted a script of strategies that will be used as guidelines.
"We’re going to have to go on some feel as the game progresses," Chow said.
Ingram, a former UH long-snapper, is a student manager this semester.
Chow said defensive coordinator Thom Kaumeyer will coordinate UH’s punt returns "because the defense is on the field."
Strength coach Gary Beemer will be in charge of gathering the personnel groups.
Wily will not play
Faga Wily, who was the No. 1 running back for the first two games, will not play Saturday while he recovers from concussion-like symptoms.
Wily was injured during last week’s scrimmage.
The Warriors opened in a five-receiver set for the first game against USC. On the second play, Wily entered. He started against Oregon State.
Joey Iosefa, who missed two games while recovering from a fractured foot, has practiced as the No. 1 running back this week.
Practice goes ‘OK’
The Warriors had their final full practice Thursday in Manoa.
"It was OK," Chow said. "But what do we tell our guys? ‘OK is not good enough.’"
