<*L>University of Hawaii student Mitchell Loo places seedlings into an aquaponic platform that he helped design and build at the Energy House in Manoa, above. At right, Sean Short shows earthworms thriving in a composting bin. At top, a sketch of the house was included in the book "Hawaii Home Energy Book," written by Energy House architect Jim Pearson. The original house included separate electricity meters to reĀ­cord the amount of power used for each appliance. The meters are no longer functional.
