If the game were played on Tuesday, Sean Schroeder or Ikaika Woolsey would likely be Hawaii’s starting quarterback.
But with kickoff set for Saturday, ailing Taylor Graham remains a possibility to start against 25th-ranked Fresno State.
Graham, who has a sore left (nonthrowing) shoulder, did not practice on Tuesday. Schroeder and Woolsey shared the reps at quarterback, and Jeremy Higgins divided his time between the UH offense and the scout team’s offense.
Coach Norm Chow said Graham, who started the first three games, is "under rehab. It’s a day-by-day deal."
The coaches gave Schroeder and Woolsey the most reps on Tuesday.
"There’s no way you can give three guys reps," Chow said. "There’s no way. It’s tough to give two guys reps. This is the life issue of football. It’s not unique."
After practice, Chow said Schroeder and Woolsey "both played well today. We decided we’d go with Sean or Ikaika if Taylor can’t go."
Later, Chow clarified his comments, telling the Star-Advertiser that Higgins remains in the mix, and UH’s quarterback situation is fluid.
"How can we make a decision on Tuesday?" Chow said. "The game’s on Saturday."
Schroeder started 11 games in 2012 after transferring from Duke.
"Sean is older, a leader," Chow said.
Woolsey grayshirted in 2011, redshirted as a freshman in 2012, and spent the past month as the scout-team quarterback.
"Ikaika is a tremendously talented young man," Chow said. "He’s going to help us one day."
Higgins, a Saint Louis School graduate, was at Utah State in 2010. He redshirted in 2011 after transferring. He started one game in 2012.
