Police credit an alert witness with helping catch a 35-year-old man who allegedly broke into a car in Kaneohe.

Police said the witness reported hearing a suspicious man making loud noises near a parked vehicle at about 1:50 a.m. Friday.

A responding officer observed the man rummaging through the trunk of a car, but the man ran away when he noticed the officer, police said.

Police caught the  suspect, who has no local address, 15 minutes later near Kahekili Highway and Kahuhipa Street and arrested him on suspicion of theft and an outstanding warrant.
