Marc Marquez sets track record for pole at Aragon GP
ALCANIZ, Spain » Overall leader Marc Marquez set a track record today to claim the pole position at the Aragon MotoGP.
Defending champion Jorge Lorenzo starts Sunday’s race from second, followed by Marquez’s Honda teammate Dani Pedrosa, who won here last year.
The 20-year-old Marquez beat Casey Stoner’s fastest time from 2011 at the 3.15-mile MotorLand Aragon circuit with a late flying lap of 1 minute, 47.804 seconds.
It was Marquez’s seventh pole of the season.
Marquez tops the standings with 253 points. Lorenzo and Pedrosa both have 219.
There are five races left.
