Leeward offering fast track to teaching in public schools
People who are interested in a faster track to teaching in Hawaii’s public schools are invited to attend a meeting at Leeward Community College on Wednesday to learn about two new online options.
An accelerated, online program will allow motivated students to earn an Associate of Arts in Teaching within 18 months. Graduates will be qualified to work as teaching assistants or part-time teachers, or to transfer and complete their bachelor’s degrees in education.
The second path is for industry professionals interested in Career and Technical Education, a wide-ranging field ranging from health sciences to automotive technology and digital media to agriculture. This alternative, online certification program allows people with career experience and associate’s or bachelor’s degrees to become certified to teach in the Department of Education.
The session will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Room GT-105 at the Leeward’s campus in Pearl City.
