Hawaii County police, responding to the report of a triggered burglar alarm Wednesday morning, arrested an 18-year-old man for allegedly breaking into a business at the Waiakea Center in Hilo.

Officers saw a man fleeing and discovered entry had been made into one of the businesses. They established a perimeter around the industrial area and arrested a suspect at 2:20 a.m.

The suspect was taken to the Hilo police cellblock on suspicion of second-degree burglary while detectives from the Area I Criminal Investigations Section continue the investigation.

Police ask anyone who may have witnessed the burglary to contact Detective John Rodrigues at 961-8222 or jrodrigues@co.hawaii.hi.us, or Detective Joel Field at 961-2381 or jfield@co.hawaii.hi.us. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call CrimeStoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona.
