Jang, Hou fire 72s at LPGA qualifying
Anna Jang, the 2007 state high school champion from Aiea, leads a Hawaii contingent at Stage II LPGA Qualifying in Venice, Fla., along with former Rainbow Wahine Corie Hou, from Australia. Both opened with a 72 and are tied for 35th. Britney Yada shot 75, Nicole Sakamoto 78 and Shayna Miyajima 79.
The top 80 and ties, in a field of 195, advance to the final Stage III qualifying, Dec. 4-8 at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla.
Quizon joins ASP Women’s World Tour
Alessa Quizon of Makaha will join four other Hawaii surfers on the Association of Surfing Professionals women’s World Championship Tour in 2014.
Quizon joins world champion Carissa Moore, Coco Ho, Malia Manuel and Alana Blanchard in the ASP’s Top 17, who gain entry into all WCT events next year.
The Top 17 is made up of the top 10 finishers in the 2013 WCT rankings, the top six in the Women’s World Tour rankings — based on their top four finishes in ASP Star events, and one wild card, which was Blanchard.
Fujikawa in a tie for 50th place
Tadd Fujikawa is tied for 50th place after the first round of the NorthStone Open in Huntersville, N.C.
Fujikawa shot a 2-over 73 on Tuesday at NorthStone Country Club.
Cal Baptist shuts out Chaminade
Cal Baptist routed Chaminade 7-0 in Pacific West Conference women’s soccer Tuesday in Riverside, Calif.
The Silverswords continue to struggle and remain winless at 0-9 and 0-5 in the conference.
Chaminade goalkeeper Lauren Ishii made seven saves and leads the conference with a total of 63 this season.
