PGA Tour season starts today
Six tournaments remain for golfers to punch their ticket to the 2014 Hyundai Tournament of Champions. The tournament, which brings together PGA Tour winners from the previous year, is Jan. 3-6 at Kapalua’s Plantation Course.
Eight players from the winning U.S. team at last week’s President’s Cup have qualified — Jordan Spieth, Zach Johnson, Bill Haas, Jason Dufner, Matt Kuchar, Phil Mickelson, Brandt Snedeker and Tiger Woods. Adam Scott, the first Australian to win The Masters, is also invited. He played for the International team.
The final qualifying events are the "start" of the reconfigured 2013-14 tour season: This week’s Frys.com Open, followed by the Shriners Hospital for Children Open, CIMB Classic in Kuala Lumpur, World Golf ChampionshipsHSBC Champions in China, The McGladrey Classic and OHL Classic at Mayakoba.
The World Cup of Golf, a team event, is Nov. 20-24 at Royal Melbourne in Australia. The tour takes a break, then starts up again on Maui. The Sony Open in Hawaii is the following week at Waialae Country Club.
