No. 5 Hawaii sweeps Cal Poly in volleyball
Senior outside hitter Emily Hartong put down 11 kills and freshman outside hitter Nikki Taylor added 10 as No. 5 Hawaii rebounded from Friday’s stunning loss to UC Santa Barbara with a very efficient 25-17, 25-16, 25-13 sweep of Cal Poly in a Big West volleyball match Saturday night at the Stan Sheriff Center.
The Rainbow Wahine (16-2, 5-1) hit .405 against the Mustangs (8-9, 2-2) in the 76-minute match.
Hawaii finished with a 38-21 edge in digs, led by senior setter Mita Uiato’s 11. Uiato picked up her fifth double-double of the season with a match-high 34 assists.
Hartong had four of the Wahine’s five aces.
Cal Poly was led by ‘Iolani graduate Chelsea Hardin. The senior outside hitter put down nine kills.
Hawaii holds its annual alumnae match next Friday at 7 p.m. A alumnae-alumnae match is scheduled for 5 p.m.

The Wahine return to conference play with a pair of road matches. They are at Cal State Northridge Oct. 24 and UC Davis Oct. 26.
