Kauai residents asked to conserve water in wake of storms

Kauai residents in Lihue, Hanamaulu and Kilauea have been asked to conserve water because of problems resulting from Monday’s rain storms.

In Lihue and Hanamaulu, the problem is low water pressure due to a recent electrical power outage caused by Monday night’s storm. Water conservation will allow the water storage tank to refill to normal levels, thus providing higher water pressure.

The water conservation request for the Kilauea community until further notice was due to an electrical power failure.

Water conservation measures include: refraining from car washing; reducing outdoor irrigation; and using water wisely indoors and outdoors.

Area residents should expect low water pressure and are asked to limit water consumption to essential uses only.

Essential water needs include: cooking; bathing; and toilet flushing.
