Maui County will hold a dedication ceremony Thursday to rename the former Waihee Ball Park after Richard “Pablo” Caldito Sr., who became the first Filipino-American elected to public office in the United States after he won a seat on the Board of Supervisors (now Maui County Council) in 1956.

Caldito served on the council for 15 years until his retirement in 1972 and was an active member of numerous community associations. He died July 25, 2011, at the age of 98.

Ceremonies will begin at 3:30 p.m. at the corner of Kahekili Highway and Halewaiu Road in Waihee.
