Hawaii Youth Correctional Facility escapee is back in custody
A 17-year-old boy who escaped from the Hawaii Youth Correctional Facility on Sunday night was found by police Wednesday morning in Makiki.
Police said the teen failed to return from an authorized leave 8 p.m. Sunday and was declared an escapee.
Police located the boy at 10:05 a.m. today on Keeaumoku Street and transported him back to the detention facility.
He was arrested on suspicion of second-degree escape.
