At $46.4 billion, Larry Ellison is the wealthiest person in California, on a list of the top 50 wealthiest individuals in each U.S. state.

Ellison bought 97 percent of Lanai for a reported $300 million last year.

According to research by Wealth-X, which tracks and studies individuals of high net worth, nine states including Hawaii do not have a single billionaire.

Hawaii’s wealthiest individual, according to Wealth-X research, is Jay Shidler, listed at No. 46 of 50 with a net worth of $0.7 billion, or $700 million.

The top two billionaires by state are Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates of Washington state at $70.8 billion, and investor Warren Buffet of Nebraska, at $59.8 billion.
