Happiness is the return of the Waioli Tea Room
News that the Waioli Tea Room & Bakery will soon reopen is good news indeed.
Fans of the charming eatery nestled in Manoa have helped keep the tea room afloat since it opened in 1922 to support skills-training programs of the Salvation Army, which owns the property. But earlier this year, there was some suspense as Brian Jahnke, who has run the site for the past decade, decided against re-upping due to the rising costs of doing business.
Now, the Salvation Army has decided to step in and run the eatery: The place closed after service last Sunday, and will have a soft reopening Nov. 11. Modifications might come later, but for the near-term, menu favorites will remain — love that curry chicken salad — as will the familiar staff.
Have a happy, and healthy, Halloween
As traditional as the Halloween costume is the Halloween safety warning. We all know the usual ones: Walk in groups or with trusted adults, inspect candy to make sure it hasn’t been tampered with, watch out for traffic, and so on.
Of course, there’s always more you can do, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Make sure your swords and knives are "short, soft, and flexible." Don’t wear decorative contact lenses. Provide trick-or-treaters with healthy treats and drinks. If you’re having a party, offer fruits and vegetables. Use trick-or-treating to get your kids 60 minutes of physical activity.
Have a Healthy Halloween!
