Suspect allegedly uses gun in store heist
A 27-year-old Haleiwa man was charged Thursday for allegedly robbing a Sunset Beach business using a handgun to demand money.
Carleton Turner was arrested Wednesday morning and later charged with first-degree robbery and a firearm violation. His bail was set at $25,000.
Police officers were called to the scene at 8:05 p.m. A 28-year-old woman said the suspect went into the business with a handgun and demanded money. After getting an undisclosed amount, the suspect fled the scene.
Man gets 10 years in kidnapping, robbery
Kauai Circuit Judge Randal N.A. Valenciano sentenced a 44-year-old Anahola man Thursday to 10 years in prison for holding a woman captive in a Safeway store for an hour and a half in October 2012 and forcing her to take $600 out of an ATM for him.
Blaine Reyes was convicted of kidnapping and second-degree robbery.
Valenciano also ordered Reyes to pay back the $600 in restitution and to have no contact with the victim.
21-year-old charged in sex assault of girl
A Kalihi man was charged Friday with sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl multiple times over the last year.
John Swoboda, 21, faces three counts of first-degree sexual assault.
